MurphyM.JPG Dr. Martin J. Murphy, Jr. brings decades of healthcare and cancer research experience to his CEO Roundtable role through his extensive work as a peer-reviewed scientist, professor, editor and consultant. Dr. Murphy is founder and Chairman Emeritus of the Cancer Prevention Institute (formerly the Hipple Cancer Research Center), which he founded in 1977 and led for 20 years as its chief executive officer and president. At Hipple, Dr. Murphy was responsible for the leadership and development of physicians and scientists who were awarded peer-reviewed NIH grants supporting a variety of research programs, and led a philanthropic program that raised more than $30 million for cancer research.

Dr. Murphy is a director of Jennerex Biotherapeutics, Inc., a development stage biotech company working to discover, develop and commercialize novel oncolytic virotherapy products. He is also a director of Aldagen, Inc., a clinical-stage regenerative medicine company. He was a charter member of the Scientific Advisory Board of Pappas Ventures, Inc. (2002-2008) and the primary biopharma consultant to Catellus, the developer of Mission Bay, the largest life science campus in San Francisco. He was the charter chairman of the Scientific Advisory Board of Almac Diagnostics (2000-2008); a member of Queen’s University-Belfast School of Medicine International Review Board, director of The ASCO Cancer Foundation, a founding director of the All-Ireland Cancer Foundation, and a director of the American Cancer Society Foundation (2000-2009). He is a director of the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health, a member of the Board of Visitors of the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, member of the Board of Advisors of the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute and a charter member of C-Change (formerly, the National Dialogue on Cancer) co-chaired by former President George H. W. Bush and former First Lady Barbara Bush; U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein serves as vice chair. Queen’s University (Belfast) conferred upon him their Doctor of Medical Science degree.

Dr. Murphy is chief executive officer and convener of the CEO Roundtable on Cancer at the request of former President George H.W. Bush.
